About Carbal Medical Services Carbal Medical Services is a Not-for-Profit Aboriginal Medical Service dedicated to providing culturally safe, holistic, and community-centred healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. With two medical clinics located in Toowoomba and Warwick, Carbal supports the Darling Downs, Southern Downs, and Goondiwindi regions.

Carbal offers a unique model of integrated care, combining primary healthcare services with programs in aged care, NDIS, community outreach, and allied health. Staff work within a comprehensive support framework alongside Aboriginal Health Workers, Registered Nurses, Midwives, and Chronic Disease Specialists to deliver meaningful outcomes. The organisation also offers nationally recognised cultural awareness training.

About the Opportunity Carbal Medical Services is looking for full-time or part-time

General Practitioners

to join their team based in either

Toowoomba or Warwick, QLD .

Reporting to the Chief Clinical Operations Officer and Clinical Lead, you will deliver culturally safe, patient-focused, and evidence-based healthcare. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to shaping Carbal's high-performing, community-led medical model.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Providing high-quality, evidence-based primary health care services

Diagnosing and managing acute and chronic medical conditions

Delivering culturally safe and trauma-informed care to a diverse patient population

Participating in preventative health programs and health promotion

Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team including RNs, Aboriginal Health Workers, and Allied Health

Supporting care continuity and integrated care pathways

Maintaining accurate and compliant clinical documentation

Contributing to clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives

For fellowship-qualified GPs: supervise registrars and contribute to growth of training programs.

Option to develop a special interest (e.g. women’s health, dermatology, chronic disease, Indigenous health), with organisational support.

AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner

Eligible to work in Australia

Commitment to culturally safe healthcare, especially for First Nations clients

Ability to work autonomously while collaborating within a broader care team

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Fellowship (FRACGP or ACRRM) — ideal for supervising trainees

Experience working in an Aboriginal Medical Service, ACCHO, or culturally diverse health setting

Comfort working in regional/rural environments and openness to flexibility

Personality & Cultural Fit We’re looking for GPs who are:

Team-oriented yet independent practitioners

Respectful, culturally sensitive, and trauma-aware

Keen to make a long-term impact, not just treat single episodes

We also welcome GPs with overseas experience (GPT3+ level), depending on supervision requirements.

About the Benefits Remuneration is based on a generous percentage of billings, with

daily earnings typically ranging between $2,000 and $3,000 .

Recent earnings data from our GPs shows that Carbal’s percentage-of-billings model can deliver annual earnings between

$305,000 and $398,000 , even when working

flexible, part-time schedules.

This strong earning potential is driven by Carbal’s multidisciplinary AMS model, where GPs benefit not only from their own consultations, but also from:

Nurse-completed chronic disease and health assessment billables

Treatment room and allied-health related services

Longer, more comprehensive appointments supported by additional services
