RJE Global is currently going through an exciting growth period with a strong pipeline of projects and hence we are seeking a motivated Engineering Design Manager to lead the design team to successfully deliver a high profile $100M+ renewable energy engineering projects.
About the Job
Reporting to the General Manager – Engineering, the Engineering Design Manager is accountable for managing and coordinating RJE Global’s multidiscipline engineering design activities related to high voltage and medium voltage electrical infrastructure, including conventional and renewable generation systems and leading multi‑discipline teams, with a drive for engineering excellence in delivering world‑class outcomes.
The Engineering Design Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of engineering projects by overseeing the design phase from conception to completion. They act as a liaison between various stakeholders including engineers, project managers, construction teams, and clients to ensure that project objectives are met to a high standard within specified project timelines and work pack budget constraints.
The Engineering Design Manager will coordinate the engineering design work required to execute RJE projects. They will manage the development and verification of technical drawings and documents in accordance with project requirements and delivery dates as outlined in the project Document Deliverable Register (DDR). The Engineering Design Manager will ensure RJE engineering standard designs are maintained and implemented on projects as required.
Key Accountabilities
Lead the engineering and design team in the management, coordination, and delivery of engineering design deliverables in accordance with industry best practices and statutory requirements.
Influence the client, managing their expectations, and ensuring all variations are identified and managed appropriately.
Effectively manage the RFI/TQ process, leading discussions with the client to outline potential project impacts.
Implement rigorous project governance strategies throughout the project lifecycle to ensure clear and transparent decision making, accountabilities, actions, and outcomes.
Develop comprehensive risk and quality management strategies that incorporate risk mitigation and due diligence controls to ensure consistent and compliant design project delivery.
Encourage innovation and be involved in feasibility activities to ensure all new projects deliver maximum value with a “lowest price, technically acceptable” approach.
Assist in developing and maintaining appropriate policies and procedures to meet business requirements.
Work in collaboration with project managers, construction teams, and other key stakeholders to achieve business goals.
Assist in the completion of as‑builts and handovers.
Coordinate design reviews (including Safety in Design) and ensure design verification checklists are complete.
Essential criteria and experience required
Tertiary qualifications in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical.
Proven ability to manage, lead and motivate a multi‑disciplined team to achieve challenging financial and schedule targets, whilst ensuring quality control is maintained.
Detailed knowledge of Australian and International Standards.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the mining, electrical utility, resource or renewables sectors.
Able to demonstrate a solid understanding of EPC project tasks and lifecycle, i.e. knowledge obtained from previous experience in a detailed engineering project design role.
Willing to lead with an innovative, adaptable, flexible & positive attitude.
A demonstrated capacity to identify, manage and mitigate the key design risks in order that they do not adversely impact on the project through its lifecycle.
Excellent communication skills. Highly developed skills in all forms of communication that enable effective interaction between management, employees, unions, contractors and the ability to foster relationships with customers/clients.
Be thorough and pay attention to detail.
The ability to work in a close team environment and interface with clients.
Self‑starter who takes ownership of tasks through to completion.
