Commercial Accountant / Finance Manager
Brisbane | Construction & Architecture
$110,000 - $130,000 + Super
We are seeking a technically strong and commercially astute Commercial Accountant / Finance Manager to join a growing construction and development business operating within the QBCC regulatory framework.
This is a broad, hands‑on role offering significant variety and visibility across the organisation. You will play a key role in financial reporting, compliance, project accounting, and commercial support, ensuring financial integrity while supporting ongoing QBCC compliance requirements.
This role is also open to accountants currently working in Public Practice who are looking to transition into a commercial, in‑house role. Strong technical foundations and audit/statutory reporting experience will be highly valued.
This position offers genuine influence, autonomy, and the opportunity to improve systems, processes, and commercial outcomes within a regulated construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting, Compliance & QBCC
Prepare annual and interim financial statements in accordance with AASB and relevant reporting requirements
Own month‑end processes (journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, variance analysis)
Review profit and loss statements to ensure integrity and accuracy
Maintain the Fixed Asset Register (including Tax Fixed Asset Register)
Assist with BAS, tax returns and FBT preparation
Support QBCC annual reporting requirements and ensure compliance with Minimum Financial Requirements (MFR)
Monitor financial ratios and working capital positions in line with QBCC obligations
Audit, Controls & Governance
Act as primary liaison for external auditors, preparing workpapers and resolving queries
Strengthen internal controls, financial systems, and reporting processes
Ensure financial documentation and reporting standards align with QBCC and regulatory requirements
Support treasury and cash flow management activities
Project & Operational Accounting
Support accounts payable and receivable, including contract‑based invoicing
Complete monthly reconciliations across AP/AR and project deliverables
Prepare weekly AR cash flow projections and actively manage outstanding invoices
Partner with operational teams to streamline processes and resolve commercial challenges
Support project‑level reporting to ensure financial performance aligns with QBCC compliance thresholds
Commercial & Strategic Support
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost/revenue analysis
Deliver financial reporting, ad hoc analysis, and actionable commercial insightsAssist with finance system enhancements, integrations, and automation initiatives
Contribute to internal improvement and transformation projects
About You
You are a qualified and technically capable accountant who thrives in a collaborative, hands‑on environment. You enjoy owning processes end‑to‑end while partnering with stakeholders to drive better commercial outcomes in a regulated construction setting.
You will bring:
CA or CPA qualification
3+ years' experience in a technically strong accounting role (statutory reporting, audit, or multi‑entity environments)
Strong knowledge of AASB standards, financial reporting, and corporate compliance
Experience managing or leading external audits
Strong Excel capability and confidence across finance systems
A solid understanding of QBCC financial requirements, including Minimum Financial Requirements (MFR) compliance
Experience working within construction, development, or project‑based environments (highly regarded)
Mandarin language skills (highly regarded) to support communication with Chinese clients and stakeholders
A proactive, accountable, solutions‑focused mindset
Clear communication skills and a collaborative, low‑ego approach
