Overview
Maayu Mali is a leading Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre located in Moree, NSW. We provide culturally appropriate and holistic rehabilitation services to Aboriginal individuals and families impacted by drug and alcohol misuse. Our mission is to empower individuals to achieve lasting recovery, reconnect with their culture, and build stronger, healthier communities.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance:
In collaboration with the Board, develop and implement the strategic plan for Maayu Mali, aligning with the overall vision and mission of Pius X Aboriginal Corporation.
Provide visionary leadership and direction to staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and cultural sensitivity.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, funding agreements, and Aboriginal community-controlled organisation (ACCO) governance principles.
Prepare and present regular reports to the Board on Maayu Mali's performance, achievements, challenges, and financial health.
Act as the primary liaison between Maayu Mali operations and the Pius X Aboriginal Corporation Board.
Operational Management & Service Delivery:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the rehabilitation centre, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, and culturally safe drug and alcohol treatment programs.
Develop, implement, and monitor operational policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Ensure the safety and well-being of clients and staff, maintaining a therapeutic and supportive environment.
Monitor program outcomes and client progress, continuously seeking to improve service effectiveness.
Manage and optimise the physical facilities and resources of Maayu Mali.
Develop and manage Maayu Mali's annual budget in conjunction with the Pius X Aboriginal Corporation Board and finance team.
Ensure sound financial management, including accurate record-keeping, expenditure control, and financial reporting.
Identify and pursue diverse funding opportunities, including grants, philanthropic support, and other revenue streams, to ensure the financial sustainability of Maayu Mali.
Prepare and submit funding applications and acquittals in a timely and accurate manner.
Human Resources Management:
Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of staff, including clinical, support, and administrative personnel.
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and professional development for all Maayu Mali staff.
Foster a positive and supportive work environment that values cultural diversity and promotes staff well-being.
Ensure adherence to all HR policies and procedures and industrial relations requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships:
Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, and local stakeholders in Moree and surrounding areas.
Represent Maayu Mali at local, regional, and national forums, advocating for the needs of Aboriginal people impacted by drug and alcohol misuse.
Develop and nurture partnerships with government agencies, health services, justice systems, and other relevant organisations.
Promote Maayu Mali's mission and services to potential clients, families, and referrers.
Cultural Competency & Community Focus:
Demonstrate a deep understanding and respect for Aboriginal cultures, customs, and protocols.
Ensure that all Maayu Mali programs and services are culturally appropriate, trauma informed, and responsive to the unique needs of Aboriginal clients.
Actively engage with the local Aboriginal community to ensure programs reflect community aspirations and values.
Champion self-determination and empowerment within the Maayu Mali framework.
Qualifications & Experience
Aboriginality: This is an identified Aboriginal position in accordance with Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). Applicants must provide a confirmation of Aboriginality with a common seal from an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO).
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture, values, and issues, particularly in relation to drug and alcohol misuse.
Significant experience (minimum 5 years) in a senior leadership or management role, preferably within the health, social services, or not-for profit sector, with a strong understanding of Aboriginal community-controlled organisations (ACCOs).
Proven experience in managing complex operations, including strategic planning, financial management, human resources, and service delivery.
Demonstrated experience in securing and managing funding from various sources.
Strong understanding of drug and alcohol rehabilitation principles, practices, and current trends.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of the local Moree Aboriginal community and its context.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Cert IV in AOD or higher.
Valid NSW Driver's License.
Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check clearance (or willingness to obtain).
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Public Health, Social Work, Business Administration, Management, or a related discipline.
Experience working directly within an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.

Articulate your understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal cultures, values, and issues, especially concerning drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Provide examples of how you have ensured culturally safe and responsive service delivery and championed Aboriginal self-determination in your previous roles.
