Job Description

As part of bp’s global APAC and ANZ Health Hub, this role delivers subject matter expertise across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring compliance with workers’ compensation policies, licensing, and accreditation requirements aligned with jurisdictional obligations and regulatory standards. It also provides extensive technical support and guidance to key stakeholders—including claimants, leaders, and People & Culture—to drive optimal workers’ compensation cost outcomes and support effective decision‑making.

The position also handles relationships with third‑party providers such as regulators and brokers to maintain strong portfolio oversight and operational efficiency. Additionally, it offers valuable insights to the wider Health and Safety teams and various bp businesses, promoting best‑practice approaches in injury management, cost control, and risk mitigation to enhance overall health and safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

Provide oversight and governance of the full portfolio all bp state-based workers compensation premium policies in conjunction with the different bp businesses, claims performance measures and budget allocations.

Provide oversight & maintenance of three state-based self-insurance licensing arrangements, accreditations & obligations.

Provide technical leadership in regard to:

ACC NZ requirements

ISO accreditation in VIC

Actuarial modelling and reporting via bp actuarial partners Taylor Fry

XOL policy maintenance in relation to self-insured states

Premium adjustments as required

Oversee business reporting on key deliverables in relation to workers compensation policy, licensing and premiums.

Ongoing risk mitigation of cost deliverables across all business unit workers compensation policies and licenses.

Maintain and continuously improve workers compensation and injury management systems and procedures across ANZ in line with jurisdiction specific requirements to drive simplicity, efficiency and outcomes.

Establish and maintain relationships with key business stakeholders to assist claims/ injury management processes, including the provision of advice, notification of responsibilities and meaningful reporting.

Provide analysis, reporting and insights of claims data to the Health Hub Lead, business, and safety where required.

Assess opportunities for continuous improvement in injury prevention & management approaches.

Provide expertise across BP in ANZ through maintaining knowledge of changes in legislation, Codes of Practice and standards relevant to workers compensation in ANZ.

Represent bp at state and national advisory committees, self-insurance associations and other group exchanges internally and externally pertaining to workers’ compensation.

What You Will Need To Be Successful

Extensive technical work experience in workers compensation insurance, policy and premium management across safety, self-insurance and premium paying jurisdictions.

Comprehensive understanding of the workers’ compensation Acts in all jurisdictions across ANZ with specific knowledge of the ACC, as well as self-insurance in WA, VIC and NSW.

Working knowledge of premium calculation and modelling; as well as actuarial modelling.

Working knowledge of workers compensation and safety auditing processes and oversight.

Experience in workers compensation licensing application and execution.

Strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent organizational competency.

Basic Word and Excel skills, with a working knowledge of both safety and injury management platforms is ideal.

Collaboration and influencing skills across a range of stakeholders.
