Manage the postgraduate medical education and training program and pre‑vocational workforce within the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and ensure that this is in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Medical Council (AMC) through the Postgraduate Medical Education Council of Tasmania (PMCT). This includes liaison with specialist colleges and the University of Tasmania.

The Team

Launceston General Hospital is an accredited 450‑bed teaching hospital and the major referral hospital for Tasmania’s North and North‑West. The hospital provides emergency and acute care, specialist services, inpatient and ambulatory care to Launceston and surrounding areas. It employs around 2,300 staff and provides quality services in an atmosphere of respect and professionalism, focusing on teamwork and community collaboration. It partners closely with the University of Tasmania to provide clinical practice experience for students in Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, Allied Health and Pharmacy.

The Clifford Craig Foundation is the community arm of the hospital, aiming to improve community health through funding for innovative research, education, equipment and facilities. Its research programme benefits the region and gives the hospital a competitive edge in attracting and retaining skilled medical professionals.

The Department of Health supports the implementation of the Studer Program at Launceston General Hospital, which commenced in October 2022. The program is built on nine key principles:

The Role

Manage the postgraduate medical education and training program and pre‑vocational workforce at LGH in accordance with AMC and PMCT requirements, liaising with specialist colleges and the University of Tasmania.

Provide guidance and support to the junior medical workforce.

Facilitate training and education sessions in accordance with Accreditation Standards.

Liaise with PMCT to deliver a fostering environment and pathway for junior doctors.

Details of Appointment

Multiple fixed‑term, part‑time day worker positions, up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a two‑year period (hours to be negotiated).

The selection process may also fill similar full‑time, part‑time and casual vacancies for twelve months from the date of publication.

Visiting Medical Practitioners Level 1 – Visiting Medical Specialists Level 4, $254,149 – $445,341 per annum, pro‑rate + 12% superannuation + salary packaging.

In addition, the following allowances and benefits, calculated on the salaried incremental point, may be available:

Salary packaging options include living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment per year.

Fitness Passport – you and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.

Eligibility

Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.

Qualification in medical education (desirable).
