Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the DCMO will be a key strategic advisor and medical leader driving excellence in safety, quality, and innovation in patient care.

About the Role

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer will provide professional and operational leadership to the Clinical Governance Service, ensuring a high-performing framework that upholds best practice, patient safety, and continuous improvement. You will partner closely with the Chief Medical Officer and other senior leaders to embed governance systems, guide risk and incident management, and champion quality improvement initiatives.

This is a role of broad influence leading the development of strategy, responding to emerging safety issues, mentoring medical leaders, and advising the Executive and Board on clinical performance, accreditation, and governance outcomes.

Candidate Profile

A medical degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Fellowship of RACMA or another relevant Australian specialist medical college

Significant experience in clinical governance, safety, and health system performance

Proven leadership in large, complex healthcare settings with a focus on collaboration and improvement

High-level capability in stakeholder engagement, advisory support, and cultural safety leadership

You will be a trusted advisor, capable of navigating complex clinical environments and fostering a strong, supportive, and high-performing culture. A strong understanding of national standards and clinical risk frameworks is essential.
