Placement Director, Construction PI (Sydney or Melbourne) Are you interested in becoming a key member of a high‑performing construction placement team, working on some of Australia’s most significant infrastructure and built‑environment projects? This role will see you partnering with a diverse portfolio of clients – including leading Contractors and Government entities – to design and deliver market‑leading professional liability risk transfer solutions.

The Opportunity As Placement Director, Construction PI, you will operate from within Aon’s Construction Industry Practice Group (IPG) and you will be reporting to the Placement Leader for the Construction IPG. You will be a senior placement broker and technical resource for our largest construction clients, shaping placement strategy across the Australian market and through our Global Broking Center in London.

You will be at the forefront of complex placements with a focus on professional liability for:

Contractors delivering major projects

Federal, state and local Government agencies with complex risk profiles

What the day will look like Key responsibilities will include -

Providing technical advice and placement guidance to the Global & Corporate and National segment, with a particular focus on complex construction risks for Contractors and Government clients

Designing and executing placement strategies for annual and project specific professional liability risks

Advising on strategy and tactics to achieve agreed revenue, margin and client satisfaction goals

Advising on contract insurance and indemnity requirements

Coordinating the broader placement team to deliver cohesive risk transfer strategies specific to professional liability

Leading negotiations with underwriters and senior executives within our carrier partners to secure optimal terms

Contributing to and implementing our market engagement strategies, ensuring strong, strategic relationships with local and international markets

Shaping and refining Aon’s policy structures and wordings to address emerging construction risks and client‑specific requirements

Creating and sharing insights with clients, carriers and colleagues using Aon’s data & analytics platforms to inform decision‑making and differentiate our offering

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Deep understanding of professional indemnity policy wordings and risk exposures

Proven experience structuring and placing complex construction or infrastructure programs for a varied client base

Demonstrable track record in clearly articulating and delivering insurer engagement strategies for large or technically challenging risks

Outstanding negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at senior levels with clients, markets and internal stakeholders

A resilient, proactive approach, comfortable working in an ever‑changing environment with competing priorities and deadlines

Advanced analytical capability – able to interpret data, portfolio performance and market trends and translate them into clear recommendations

Proficient in contract reviews – able to review key clauses, recommend enhanced positions and provide strategic advice on how to insure

A developed insurer network at all levels and the ability to maintain and strengthen strategic market relationships
