About PYMHWS Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria's newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. PYMHWS is leading a bold, values-driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne's north and west. The service model is shaped by young people's voices and underpinned by safety, equity and continuous learning.

General Counsel Will ensure strong legal, governance, and ethical foundations that enable effective decision-making and sustainable growth. This collaborative, solutions-focused leader will guide the organisation through establishment, growth and consolidation.

About the Role Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Counsel is a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the CEO, Board and Executive Team. The role will both strategise and be hands‑on, guiding the organisation through establishment, growth and consolidation.

What You'll Do

Provide accurate, timely and practical legal advice to the CEO, Board and Executive.

Oversee legal risk management, compliance and legislative obligations under the Health Services Act and related frameworks.

Advise on contracts, medico‑legal issues, privacy, intellectual property and research governance.

Manage relationships with external legal providers and the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA).

Strengthen organisational integrity and ethical practice across all areas of operation.

Contribute to organisational strategy, governance and decision‑making as a key member of the Executive Team.

About You

Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and currently practising.

Significant post‑admission experience in health, research or government legal practice.

Expertise in commercial contracting, governance, medico‑legal and regulatory compliance.

Exceptional communication, negotiation and relationship‑building skills.

A collaborative, values‑led approach and commitment to youth‑centred care, equity and inclusion.
