Underwriter - Accident and Health
Are you a motivated and relationship‑driven insurance professional looking to take the next step in your Underwriting Career? We are seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Underwriter to join our Melbourne Accident & Health team and support our growing Accident & Health portfolio.
About the role:
Reporting to the National Manager – Accident & Health, you will play a key role in managing and growing an Accident & Health portfolio by handling renewals, assessing and converting new business opportunities, and delivering responsive, high‑quality service to brokers. You’ll monitor portfolio performance, ensure compliance with underwriting and legislative requirements, stay across industry developments, and actively participate in market engagement and networking activities.
This role is ideal for someone with 1‑2 years experience as an Underwriter, or a well‑experienced Assistant Underwriter looking to step up and take on full underwriting responsibility within a supportive and high‑performing environment.

Responsibilities Include:
Manage and service an existing Accident & Health portfolio, including renewals and mid‑term adjustments
Assess and underwrite new business opportunities in line with authority and guidelines
Strengthen and maintain strong broker relationships through responsive and professional service
Conduct portfolio reviews to monitor performance, profitability, and trends
Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, legislative requirements, and internal policies
Keep across industry developments, competitor activity, and emerging risks
Attend networking events, broker meetings, and industry functions as required
Contribute positively to a high‑performance, collaborative culture
About You:
2+ years’ experience in insurance, ideally within an Underwriting or Underwriting Support role
Strong understanding of the Australian insurance market
Academic/Professional: ASIC PS146 Tier 1
A commitment to following, applying, and interpreting underwriting guidelines
Strong commercial acumen and a determination to maintain a profitable portfolio
Positive, professional, and proactive attitude
Strong sales orientation, with confidence in pursuing and closing new business
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail, strong organisational capability, and ability to manage workload both in and out of the office
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with IT systems
Ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative team
