About the role Deakinisn'tjust adopting AI –we'rrebuilt it. With Deakin GEM now live and our AI Factory, a multi-disciplinary squad, accelerating capability across the institution, ambitious work is underway across multiple streams.

As Principal, Cloud Infrastructure Engineering you will provide architectural assurance and technical leadership across enterprise cloud infrastructure platforms. You will oversee cloud infrastructure initiatives and AI platform operations, ensuring high standards of reliability, performance, cost management and security across hybrid and cloud ecosystems. This role combines deep technical expertise with stakeholder influence — partnering across the University to embed modern cloud engineering practices and sustainable operational models.

You will:

Lead the design, delivery and optimisation of enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure solutions

Strengthen automation strategies to enable efficient provisioning, configuration and management of cloud environments

Drive infrastructure monitoring, performance optimisation and financial management practices

Provide trusted technical advice and coaching to senior stakeholders and delivery teams

Embed cloud engineering best practices across projects and operational services

Champion engineering excellence, automation and continuous improvement

Collaborate across teams to ensure cloud platforms support business, technical and strategic objectives

About you You are a highly experienced cloud infrastructure engineering professional who thrives in complex enterprise environments.

You’ll bring:

Deep expertise in enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and modern cloud engineering patterns

Experience applying FinOps principles, including cost optimisation and consumption transparency

Strong programming and automation capabilityExperience supporting diverse cloud-hosted platforms and services

The ability to align technical infrastructure standards with strategic business outcomes

Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
