About the role
The successful applicant will be responsible for assessment and diagnosis of mental illness and dementias in frail elderly patients across various settings including clinics, patients’ homes, residential aged care facilities, and a subacute inpatient facility. Your duties will include treatment and management of mental illness and associated social complications related to dementia, working with a community team comprising the MDT and case managers, attending outpatient clinics, working in accordance with the Mental Health Act 2013 and Guardianship and Administration Act 1995, and participation in an on‑call roster for the subacute inpatient service.
About the location
Tasmania’s South Region is known for its relaxed pace, friendly communities and the natural beauty that nurtures genuine well‑being. Hobart’s vibrant arts and festival scene – home to MONA, Dark Mofo, Taste of Summer and a full year of performances – creates a culturally rich yet welcoming atmosphere. Nature lovers enjoy world‑class bushwalking on Mount Wellington, kayaking on the River Derwent, boating and fishing in the Huon, and day trips to Bruny Island’s beaches and wildlife areas. Sport and recreation are woven into local life with sailing, cycling, trail running, football and cricket leagues, and excellent facilities for families. The region’s food culture is another highlight with fresh local produce, vineyards, markets, distilleries and award‑winning restaurants. Housing ranges from character‑filled city homes to tranquil coastal and rural properties at more attainable prices than on the mainland. Families benefit from a strong network of educational options, including well‑regarded public and independent schools, TAFE campuses, and the University of Tasmania’s major Hobart precinct. Reliable public transport, well‑connected roads and short commute times make daily life simpler and more relaxed.
