Job Description
You’re not about to read a generic sales leadership job description that feels like it’s been copy-pasted from 1995.
Or written by Chat GPT this morning.
No clichés. No fluff. No buzzword salad.
If that instantly made you breathe a sigh of relief, great - keep reading.
If you’re mentally defending traditional recruitment processes, this probably isn’t going to be the role for you.
Who are we?
Maskill is one of
Australia’s most trusted undercarriage and heavy-equipment partners
- known for engineering excellence, deep technical capability, and old-fashioned reliability.
For twenty years the business has been driven by world-class technical skill and strong customer relationships across QLD, NSW and WA.
And over the last two years we’ve transformed from a large founder-run family business to a professionalised, CEO-led multi-site group of companies with:
A brand-new WA facility in 2026 (with Australia’s largest 500-ton track press)
A significantly expanded QLD operation and new CNC capability
A newly acquired fabrication, welding, blast & paint business
New 120t–300t undercarriage product lines
A modern enterprise CRM (Salesforce)
A new website and upcoming e-commerce platform
Our
technical engine has always been our strength .
But now, as we head into 2026, we’re getting ready to
elevate our commercial engine to match , with the same level of discipline, innovation, and investment.
To hear Shannon Jansen, our CEO, talk more about this, get a copy of the
Application Pack
for this role (just click Quick Apply).
Why this role has been created
Because the current leadership team (CEO and Founder included) have recognised they’ve reached the ceiling of their expertise in this area and know they
need a specialist to step in and take over.
Having worked closely with both Kelly Maskill (the Founder) and Shannon Jansen (the CEO) on previous projects I believe
their self-awareness and humility
are core characteristics that have enabled their individual and joint success.
And that this also makes them incredible people to work with.
They’re looking to the new HoC & BD to lead Maskill’s national commercial function as the business continues to grow.
The business is scaling fast so they know they need to strengthen our commercial systems, national account structures, pricing governance, and BD maturity to make sure they don’t build a house of cards.
The HoC & BD will help to -
Commercialise new product lines
Strengthen major mining accounts
Lead (and lift) a strong but diverse BD team
Build a nationally aligned commercial strategy
Introduce modern sales systems and discipline
Bring clarity and cohesion to the commercial side of the business
Unlike so many corporate roles where what they say they want is
NOT
what they really want.
The successful HoC & BD will have the mandate, autonomy, encouragement and organisational backing to build what the business actually needs
without politics, egos and red‑tape getting in the way.
Who you’ll work with
You’ll
partner directly with our CEO , Shannon Jansen,a leader who values transparency, alignment and commercial sophistication, and who genuinely wants a strong commercial counterpart.
Shannon isn’t your typical corporate CEO, he’s grounded, real, and hands on. So
instead of playing bullsh*t bingo in the boardroom , you’ll more likely be brainstorming in the lunchroom.
As the HoC & BD you’ll be a
strategic commercial partner bringing fresh perspective , steady leadership and strong commercial judgement (as well as hopefully some better jokes because it’s been a while since someone new joined the team).
You’ll also work closely with:
⚫ The WA & East Coast General Managers
⚫ Engineering, Production & Quality
⚫ Procurement & Finance
⚫ The BD & Key Account team
⚫ The leadership of our newly acquired fabrication/paint/blast business
This is the perfect role for someone who can hold their own with operators, engineers and mining procurement leaders.
What you’ll do
Your work will sit at the intersection of high-impact commercial strategy and hands-on leadership
inside a world-class privately held business backing growth with real investment.
You’ll have the runway, authority and support to modernise the commercial function to support the next era of Maskill’s growth.
For a 12 month roadmap of our
key priorities

It's like an IM for the role because if you're the kind of person we're looking for you've got plenty of questions this ad doesn't answer.
Who’s the right person for this role?
Someone who’s commercially mature but not jaded, who can bring both wisdom and innovation.
Ideally you'll read the list below and think, “Yep, that’s me.”
☑️ I’m equally comfortable talking to a CEO and a machine operator.
☑️ I know how to build modern commercial systems, not just operate inside them.
☑️ I bring calm, clarity and structure into environments that are scaling fast.
☑️ I’m a leader, not a lone wolf – I build capability, not dependency.
☑️ I enjoy modernising BD functions (CRM, forecasting, account plans, pricing discipline).
☑️ I’m experienced in mining, OEM, industrial services, or similarly complex environments.
☑️ I want my contribution and impact to be visible – not lost in layers of bureaucracy.
☑️ I’m energised by transformation and growth, not put off by it.
What’s in it for you?
Nope, we don’t have a long list of discounts you don’t want or initiatives we developed to make statutory entitlements sound like perks.
What we’re offering is a chance to lead the national commercial transformation of a trusted Australian engineering business during its biggest period of investment and growth.
We've created a comprehensive overview of what we're offering in the
Application Pack
for you to consider.
The reality
We don’t gloss over things here or use jazz-hands type tactics to make things sound better than they are.
We’ll start as we mean to continue - honestly.
The commercial function is working, it’s ‘fine’.
But ‘fine’ just isn’t good enough for us. There
so much untapped potential just waiting to be unlocked.
You’ll need deep experience navigating mining industry sales cycles, procurement, complex accounts, and commercial judgement, and to be able to bring your people with you.
The challenge is only one side of the coin though.
On the other side is a chance to build the commercial engine of a successful company with enormous technical capability, huge growth potential and a moat full of crocodiles.
And, critically,
you won’t be blocked by politics, resistance or lack of support.
Our non-negotiables
To succeed in this role you’ll need:
✅ Commercial leadership experience in mining (this is a must).
✅ Experience leading multi-region or national BD teams.
✅ Strong pricing, negotiation, tendering and contract experience.
✅ Commercial transformation experience (CRM, forecasting, sales governance).
✅ Ability to lead through ambiguity with calm, clarity and confidence.
✅ High integrity and alignment with Maskill’s values.
