Legal Consultant – Corporate M&A and Commercial Lawyer (4+ PQE)
Peerpoint is A&O Shearman’s global platform for self‑directed consultant lawyers who want to access high‑quality work, clients, resources and support. Assignments typically last six months or more, either within A&O Shearman practice groups or directly with clients. Candidates may be based in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, or remote working arrangements may also be considered.
About the role
We are seeking self‑driven corporate M&A and commercial lawyers with 4+ years post‑qualification experience and an equivalent practising certificate. Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
M&A
Corporate restructuring
Commercial contracts
Leverage and acquisition finance or other associated financings (bonus)
Recent opportunities
A full‑time, 3–9 month role as a corporate/M&A lawyer with a fintech company
A 6‑month, 4–5 days per week role for a corporate and co‑sec lawyer with a medical devices company
A 12‑month, full‑time role for a mid‑level M&A lawyer with a global offshore renewable energy company
A short‑term, 4–5 days a week, potentially fully remote role for a commercial lawyer with a digital portal company
Successful applicants will:
Have the right to work and reside in Australia
Be qualified to practice in Australia and have an unrestricted (unsupervised) practising certificate or the ability to obtain the same
Have a minimum of 4 years’ post‑qualification experience, a proportion of which within a law firm akin to A&O Shearman and/or ranked top tier in your area of expertise
Have a willingness to engage with Peerpoint as a casual employee or via an Independent Legal Practice
Have strong technical knowledge and ideally recent Australian experience (although the latter is not strictly necessary)
Be a self‑starter with a commitment to building a career as a consultant and a drive to achieve at a high level whilst working as a consultant
Be adept at leading or working within complex multi‑functional, multi‑national project environments, or open to working in the same
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels, building strong relationships internally and externally
Be client service‑focused, with exemplary client service ethic and commitment
Have strong commercial/business acumen
Be resilient, adaptable, autonomous and highly credible
Have advanced organisational skills and diplomacy
