About The Role
The Chief Midwifery Officer provides expert, strategic, contemporary and authoritative advice on maternity and midwifery practices to the Victorian Government, Safer Care Victoria, the Minister for Health, and the broader health sector. They serve as the principal advisor on all maternity and midwifery matters and offer professional leadership and direction across maternity and midwifery opportunities and issues in Victoria.
A central focus of the role is leading and supporting system-wide reform, to improve outcomes for Victorian women, babies and families. The role will be action-focused and have a strong ability to work autonomously in supporting delivery and outcomes. Pivotal will be the implementation of the approved Victorian Maternity Taskforce recommendations and system reform initiatives to strengthen midwifery practice and maternity and newborn care across the state.
As key adviser, the Chief Midwifery Officer provides strategic, operational, system specific and specialised clinical leadership to Ministers, the Secretary, Safer Care Victoria and the Department on targeted priorities to improve the system and outcomes.
The Chief Midwifery Officer is the principal advisor on all matters relating to midwifery, and for the provision of professional leadership and direction on a diverse range of midwifery and maternity issues for Victoria.
Engagement with senior stakeholders and leaders across government and the broader health sector will be required.

About You
We are looking for someone who can:
Provide expert midwifery and maternity advice to government, senior levels of management and external stakeholders on professional matters and clinical safety and quality.
Provide high level support, vision, thought leadership and guidance to the midwifery profession by building and sustaining effective relationships with health services, Directors of Midwifery and Nursing and other internal and external groups. This includes representation on Victorian and national nursing and midwifery groups and bodies.
Act as a thought leader and strategist to promote discussion and debate regarding professional midwifery and maternity matters and issues of concern deriving from professional midwifery groups, the Victorian public health sector and cross jurisdiction agencies or Committees.
Identify associated research and analysis of emerging issues of strategic significance in relation to policy issues relation to the nursing and midwifery professions, and quality and safety in health care.
Required qualifications / experience:
Current registration as a Registered Midwife with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
A post-graduate tertiary qualification in health with a minimum of 15 years' relevant health system experience.
