Executive Director – National Advocacy (Automotive Sector | Canberra) Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA) is seeking a strategic and politically astute Executive Director to lead national advocacy for one of Australia's most vital industries. Representing over 70,000 businesses and 380,000 workers across the automotive service, repair, retail, and mobility sectors, MTAA plays a critical role in shaping federal policy on skills, franchising, insurance, EV transition, and more. In this influential leadership role, you will:

Responsibilities

Drive national advocacy and policy strategy on behalf of the sector

Engage with ministers, regulators, and industry stakeholders at the highest levels

Coordinate priorities across MTAA's federated structure and member organisations

Lead media and stakeholder communications to strengthen MTAA's voice and impact

Oversee governance, operations, and strategic implementation for the Board

Qualifications

Senior leadership experience in a peak body, government, or complex stakeholder environment

A proven ability to shape policy and influence public outcomes

Sophisticated communication and negotiation skills

Strong understanding of governance and federated structures

A collaborative, credible, and forward‑thinking leadership style
