The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Executive Director People, Safety and Culture to provide executive leadership for the People function.
About the Business Unit
The Corporate Strategy and Delivery Group is an enabling function delivering Finance, People, Safety and Culture, Strategic Communication, Infrastructure, Data, Performance and Governance, and Enterprise Technology Solutions to support the Department. The group provides strategic and operational support, delivers essential corporate services, and leads continuous improvement and performance oversight of corporate functions.
The People, Safety and Culture branch supports the department in workplace culture and people matters, including human resource policy and strategy; organisational culture and change; recruitment and retention; performance and development; pay, benefits and workforce reporting; safety and wellbeing; workplace relations; and employee conduct.
About the Role
The role is responsible for whole-of-department stewardship of the branch delivering expert advice, governance and capability to support organisational performance, workforce sustainability and a high-performing values-led culture.
Key Responsibilities
Providing executive leadership for the management and delivery of high-quality, responsive human resources functions that support the Department's strategic objectives and respond to evolving organisational needs.
Acting as the principal source of authoritative and strategic advice to the Executive Board, Secretary, and Deputy Secretaries and Commissioners on complex HR matters, regularly presenting briefing papers and recommendations.
Representing the Department in high-level discussions and negotiations on human resources matters with government agencies, other jurisdictions, service providers, and internal stakeholders.

About you
This is a stewardship role that requires decisiveness, high levels of expertise and requires building credibility through positive influence and a collaborative joint problem-solving approach.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Significant senior leadership experience in human resources and/or organisational development within large complex and changing environments.
Strong expertise in strategic human resource management, preferably in a public sector setting, with a proven ability to apply this knowledge to drive organisational performance and achieve corporate objectives.
Qualifications and Requirements
A tertiary qualification in a relevant field is highly desirable.
