Job Description
Data Architect
About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Data Architect to play a pivotal role in shaping our enterprise data platform and elevating how the organisation designs, governs, and consumes trusted data. You’ll join a forward‑thinking team focused on enabling consistent, high‑quality analytics, reporting, and AI/ML outcomes through robust data modelling and semantic layer design.
In this strategic and hands‑on position, you’ll develop enterprise data models, design scalable semantic layers, and define best‑practice standards that support business domains across finance, procurement, HR and more. You’ll work closely with stakeholders to translate complex requirements into clear, governed structures that ensure data is consistent, accessible, and ready to drive meaningful insights.
You Should Have
Proven experience as a Data Architect and Data Modeller, including delivery of semantic layer designs
Deep expertise in dimensional modelling, including facts, slowly changing dimensions, hierarchies, and familiarity with Data Vault 2.0 and 3NF
Strong domain modelling experience across corporate functions such as finance, procurement, and HR
Hands‑on experience with semantic layer frameworks and tools (e.g., LookML, dbt metrics layer, BI semantic models)
Proficiency with Azure data warehouse technologies and Microsoft BI tools
Strong SQL, data transformation, and understanding of Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold)
Experience with performance tuning at model and warehouse levels (materialisations, caching, partitioning, clustering, Parquet/Delta)
Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to lead design workshops and align stakeholders
Ability to mentor, influence, and enable teams in data modelling and semantic design best practice
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models aligned to enterprise needs
Design and deliver semantic layers that define consistent KPIs, metrics, and business logic across analytics platforms
Ensure data models are scalable, performant, domain‑aligned, and optimised for analytics, reporting, and AI/ML use cases
Apply domain‑appropriate modelling patterns aligned with a Medallion architecture
Define and implement best‑practice approaches for modelling across data warehouses, data lakes, and hybrid environments
Establish modelling standards, naming conventions, metadata guidelines, and governance processes
Lead design reviews for data models, semantic layers, and metric definitions
Collaborate with engineers, analysts, BI developers, and data scientists to enable self‑service access to trusted data
Train and mentor teams on modelling methods, semantic layer concepts, and business logic implementation
Act as the bridge between technical engineering teams and business‑facing analytics groups
The Benefits
Opportunity to shape the enterprise‑wide approach to data modelling, semantic design, and governance
Work within a collaborative environment that values ownership, thought leadership, and technical excellence
High‑impact role influencing analytics, reporting, and AI/ML initiatives across the organisation
