The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, the Director of Pharmacy provides strategic and operational leadership of pharmacy services across Barwon Health and the wider Barwon southwest region. This executive role is accountable for delivering safe, high-quality and financially sustainable medicines management aligned to organisational strategy.
You will lead medication safety and quality use of medicines initiatives, ensuring compliance with national standards, while overseeing governance, policy development and risk management frameworks. The role drives contemporary and innovative pharmacy service models across inpatient, outpatient and transitional care settings, advances automation and clinical informatics capability, and provides expert advice to the Executive and senior leadership team across an organisation of more than 9000 caregivers.
With responsibility for workforce strategy, succession planning and capability development, you will foster a high-performing, research-active pharmacy team. You will oversee budget performance, pharmaceutical contracts and purchasing strategies, strengthen university and research partnerships, and represent Barwon Health in professional, regulatory and sector forums at a regional and state level.
About You
You are a respected, systems-focused pharmacy leader with strong clinical credibility and executive presence. You bring significant senior leadership experience within complex healthcare environments and a demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and innovation.
You will have:
Registration as a Pharmacist with AHPRA, with no conditions, limitations or notations
A minimum of 10 years’ senior pharmacy leadership experience
Expertise in medication safety, governance and Medication and Therapeutics Committees, including formulary management
Strong financial, operational and workforce leadership capability
Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Postgraduate management qualifications, A PhD, PharmD or demonstrated research track record, Good Clinical Practice certification and clinical trials experience are desirable.
