4impact are partnering with a major Australian energy provider on a high‑impact delivery, and we’re searching for a

Senior Data Engineer who is equally strong as a software developer . This role sits at the intersection of

data engineering and software engineering , ideal for someone who loves building modern cloud-native data products end‑to‑end.

Why this role is exciting

True product engineering — own, design and ship features end‑to‑end in a cross‑functional squad.

~50% of your time coding across Git, dbt, Snowflake and AWS. This is not a “drag‑and‑drop data engineer” role.

Modern cloud stack — AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS), Snowflake, dbt, serverless pipelines, event‑driven architecture.

Lean team = real impact — autonomy, problem‑solving, and outcomes over process.

Contract stability — 6‑month contract with a planned 9‑month extension.

What you’ll be doing

Designing, building and operating event‑driven AWS data pipelines using serverless technologies.

Developing dbt models and Snowflake transformations that feed analytics and product workloads.

Writing production‑grade code (including testing, CI/CD, and code reviews).

Working in fortnightly Agile sprints, collaborating closely with a PO, devs, testers, UX and cloud specialists.

Proactively identifying issues, communicating early, and driving solutions independently.

What we’re looking for (must‑haves)

Strong software engineering fundamentals — confident writing clean, testable code.

Comfortable spending around 50% of your time coding.

Hands‑on experience with AWS (especially Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS).

Solid production experience with dbt and Snowflake.

Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js).

Someone who thrives in lean, outcome‑focused teams and can hit the ground running.

Nice‑to‑haves

Experience with Databricks, streaming pipelines or similar tooling.

Exposure to machine learning workflows (not essential).

Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform/CDK) and strong CI/CD habits.

Day rate: Market rates

Location: Brisbane CBD, hybrid — 3 days onsite until May; likely 4 days onsite from May onwards.

Contract: 6 months initially with a planned 9‑month extension.

Start: ASAP — shortlisting underway.
