Research Director (Methodology & Measurement)

Research Director, Methodology & Measurement Lead Innovation in Educational Assessment | ACER The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) is seeking an exceptional leader to head our Methodology & Measurement team and drive innovation in psychometrics, statistical modelling, and sampling for high‑impact educational assessment programs worldwide.

As Research Director, you’ll join the senior leadership team within our Measurement, Analytics and Technologies Division, guiding world‑class experts and advancing cutting‑edge measurement science. You’ll lead complex research initiatives, develop new analytic approaches, strengthen ACER’s public profile, and collaborate closely with our Research Director, Data Science & Automation.

What You’ll Do

Lead the development of advanced psychometric and statistical models for global assessment programs.

Drive innovation in analytic techniques, including work on complex survey data, process data, and adaptive systems.

Translate complex methodologies for diverse audiences and build external partnerships.

Shape strategy, guide high‑performing teams, and contribute to business development.

About You You bring recognised expertise in a relevant discipline, a strong track record of research and professional achievement, and experience leading technical teams. You excel at strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and delivering complex projects.

Salary range: $200,000–$220,000 plus 17% superannuation
